EAST BRUNSWICK – A 42-year-old male resident of East Brunswick was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle after allegedly stealing items from a car at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 26.
East Brunswick police patrol units responded to the area of PetSmart, 300 Route 18, to investigate a report of a man allegedly entering a vehicle and removing a purse, according to police.
A witness reportedly observed the man leave the area and walk behind PetSmart. Upon arrival, Patrolman Ryan Hensperger located the man behind PetSmart, allegedly with a purse and a wallet in his possession, according to police.
During an investigation, the witness who notified police dispatch of the theft positively identified the man as the person who entered the vehicle and removed the purse. Police said the owner of the stolen items subsequently identified them as her property.
The man was charged with burglary to a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court date, according to police.
