Freeholders remove Tinton Falls road from Master Plan

The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders passed a resolution that will remove Hope Road in Tinton Falls from the Monmouth County Road Plan.

Hope Road is located between Sycamore Avenue (County Road 13A) and Tinton Avenue (County Road 537). Hope Road will remain under the jurisdiction of Tinton Falls.

During a Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholder meeting on Sept. 27, members of the governing body unanimously voted to remove the municipal roadway from the county’s master plan.

“We created and passed this resolution as a direct result of our conversations with the residents of Tinton Falls, who expressed concerns and suggestions during our public meeting last month,” Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone said in a statment.

“Today we are acting on something for the people and we are happy to do so. We look forward to continuing an open dialogue with the residents about improving safety of the intersection,” Arone said.

Residents in Tinton Falls originally expressed apprehension toward the county assuming ownership of Hope Road.

Hope Road is one of the local roadways involved in preliminary conceptual plans to improve the flow of vehicles through an accident-prone intersection in the municipality.

On Aug. 1, Director Arnone and Deputy Director Burry held an information session that was attended by more than one hundred Tinton Falls residents and public officials.

The Tinton Falls Borough Council passed a resolution on Sept. 4 requesting county officials remove Hope Road from the Monmouth County Road Plan. The Monmouth County Road Plan is an element of the Monmouth County Master Plan.

In the current plan, some municipal roads that may serve a regional function were identified as potential county roads. These roads would only become county roads through a formal municipal request of a jurisdictional takeover, according to a press release.
