• Life’s Journey: The Good, the Bad, the Better! will be the next presentation in the 2018 Discussion Series at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Oct. 23. The series is free, non-sectarian and open to the community. The presenter will be Teena Cahill. Topics will include enhancing innate resilience through self-care and education, the link between listening and leadership, and busting the myth of balance and cognitive reframing – why what we think really matters. • The Freehold Elks Lodge Motorcycle Committee will host its annual bike raffle drawing party on Oct. 6 from 1-6 p.m. at the lodge, 73 E. Main St., Freehold. • The Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District Board of Education will hold a regular action meeting at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the district administration offices, 54 Main St., Englishtown. The meeting is open to the public.

• The Manalapan Board of Health will sponsor a free rabies immunization clinic for dogs and cats from 9-11:30 a.m. Nov. 3 in the Manalapan Recreation Center at the new expansion building by Field K and the spray park (best entrance is the western entrance, not the main entrance, on Route 522). • The Italian American Association of Monmouth County presents Entertainment Night featuring “Elvis Italian Style” from 7-11 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Robertsville Banquet Center (Robertsville firehouse), 94 Route 520, Marlboro. • The Monmouth County Park System will host a mill demonstration on Oct. 6-7, 13-14, 20-21 and 27-28 from 1-4 p.m. at Historic Walnford, Walnford Road, Upper Freehold Township. See the 19th century gristmill in action. Demonstrations run through November. Free.

• The Monmouth County Park System will host Thompson Park Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 14 at Thompson Park, Lincroft. Activities include a scarecrow contest, doggie costume contest, pumpkin painting, wagon rides, entertainment and more. Some activities have a fee. Admission and parking are free. • The Rev. Jonathan Elsensohn, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Freehold, 81 W. Main St., will hold a Blessing of Animals at 1 p.m. Oct. 7. This event traditionally takes place on or near the feast of St. Francis, who preached that all creatures should praise God and that people have a duty to protect and enjoy nature as both the stewards of God’s creation and as creatures themselves. Community members may bring their pets to the church to receive a blessing.

• The Reformed Church of Freehold, 67 W. Main St., will host a roast beef dinner from 4:30-7 p.m. Nov. 3. All are welcome to attend. Tickets: $20 (adult) and $6 (child, 6-12). • The Monmouth County Park System presents “Creatures of the Night!” at Huber Woods Park, Middletown. This is an interactive, non-scary family friendly hayride during which staff and volunteers perform light-hearted and educational skits. Offered on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-27 (staggered times between 4:30-8 p.m. and not all times are offered each evening). The cost is $10 per person. • Performing Arts Ensemble will hold auditions for a holiday show including “Nutcracker.” PAE is seeking singers, dancers and other entertainers of all ages. Roles are open for boys and girls ages 4-12, teen and young adult pointe dancers, dancers of all kinds, gymnasts and male actors, beginner to professional. • Marty’s Place Senior Dog Sanctuary will host its annual Howl-O-Ween Family Fest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21 (rain date, Oct. 28) at 118 Route 526, Upper Freehold. This fun-filled event is open to the public and anyone can come with children of all ages and dogs of all sizes. There will be a Ruff Mudder Canine Obstacle Course. • The Marlboro Jewish Center will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Chai Building, 46 Topanemus Road, Marlboro, beginning at 11 a.m. Oct. 14. There will be musical performances, family art projects, refreshments and games. Community members of all ages are invited to attend the free event. • Center Players Dessert Theater has partnered with theater instructor Darrell Willis Sr. to offer teen acting classes this fall at Center Playhouse, 35 South St., Freehold. “Acting 101” is open to young adults ages 12-17 and will include scene study, improvisation and basic acting techniques. • Boys and girls ages 8-17 may experience a free airplane ride on Oct. 20 as Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 315 of the North Jersey Shore hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at Monmouth Jet Center, 1717 Route 34, Wall Township. Those attending are asked to enter the airport at Hurley Pond Road west of Route 34 and proceed to the main terminal building, starting at 9:30 a.m. to register for their flight. • Comedian, singer and pianist Steven “Sarge” Pickman will perform at Congregation Ahavat Olam, Howell, at 2 p.m. Oct. 14. The event is open to the public. • The Deep Cut Orchid Society will hold its annual orchid auction on Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with plant preview available from 9:30-10 a.m., at Monmouth Park racetrack, 175 Oceanport Avenue, Oceanport. • The Manalapan-Englishtown Community Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse has launched its Project Zero website at projectzeromanalapan.com. Project Zero is the alliance’s initiative to reset the narrative in Englishtown and Manalapan regarding substance abuse. The website contains information about where residents can go for assistance.
