Downtown Metuchen announces spooky events

Downtown Metuchen will hold spooky family fun throughout October.

On Oct. 13, the movie “Ghostbusters” will be shown at sundown at Town Plaza, sponsored by the Metuchen Downtown Alliance.

On. Oct. 16, a Halloween poster painting contest will be held at 3:15 p.m. at Campbell School. Must preregister at the Metuchen Recreation Department or at metuchennj.org. Cost is $8. Winners will be displayed at What’s the Scoop.

On Oct. 19, scarecrows will be installed on Main Street. Reserve a scarecrow in advance at the Metuchen Chamber of Commerce or by visiting metuchenchamberexchange.com.

On Oct. 20, there will be a family pumpkin carving and craft event from 2-4 p.m. at the Metuchen Senior Center, 15 Center St. Registration required by Oct. 17.

Cost is $12. Preregister at the rec department. Pumpkins will be lit for an evening event.

“Stories Come Alive in the Plaza” featuring special guest artists, will be on Oct. 20. A children-friendly version is at 6 p.m., followed by a spookier show after dark. In Town Plaza. Wear a costume.

On Oct. 27, Haunted Downtown, sponsored by the Metuchen Downtown Alliance, will take place from noon to 5 p.m., featuring a mechanical bull at Town Plaza, a strolling T-Rex and specials and events at downtown businesses. A Zombie Walk will follow at 5 p.m. at Cai’s Cafe.
