MILLSTONE – A contract has been awarded by the Township Committee for Millstone Township’s road improvement program for this year.
On Oct. 3, committee members awarded a $762,245 contract to Meco Inc. for the 2018 road improvement program. Meco was awarded the contract after submitting the lowest bid for the project. The contract is subject to the availability of funds and approval from the state Department of Transportation commissioner.
According to a resolution, bids were also submitted by Fernandes Construction, which bid $960,291; Earle Asphalt Company, which bid $900,513; and Z Brothers Concrete Contractors, which bid $861,072.
In other business, committee members appointed Sanford Mersky, of the firm South Jersey Engineers, LLC to the position of waste water management consultant. His contract is not to exceed $5,000.
The appointment was made because of a need for a waste water management engineer, according to a resolution. Mersky’s initial appointment will be from Sept. 24, 2018 through Sept. 24, 2019.
Finally, committee members authorized the execution of a road, drainage, utilities and appurtenances maintenance agreement with XXXIII Associates/Riverside Center, LLC, Riverside Center Property Owners’ Association Inc. and Millstone Township. The agreement is in connection with a warehouse project on old Route 33 and Farrington Boulevard that XXXIII Associates/Riverside Center presented before the Planning Board.
According to the resolution, the township, XXXIII Associates/Riverside Center and Riverside Center Property Owners’ Association found it necessary to enter into the agreement for the maintenance of Farrington Boulevard and DeBaun Road, which will be public road.
The warehouse project was previously approved by the Planning Board in 2014. In 2017, the board granted the applicant a one-year extension of time through Dec. 10, 2018, amid potential improvements that may be made to the approved plan.
The approved application was for a 94,500-square-foot warehouse/storage area, an 8,000-square-foot showroom with administrative offices, 44 parking spaces, a single tenant and two entrances on Farrington Boulevard.
The proposed changes would reduce the warehouse/storage area to 84,000 square feet, reduce the office space to 3,000 square feet, reduce the number of parking spaces to 41, allow multiple tenants and reduce the number of entrances to one.
Representatives of the applicant said they sought the time extension because the company’s representatives are in discussions with a potential buyer/user who would store dry goods in the approved building and distribute them to stores along the east coast.
Representatives of the applicant are expected to appear before the Planning Board prior to the expiration of the extension of time on Dec. 10.
