Red Bank to move forward with second driveway at school

RED BANK – Members of the governing body have unanimously adopted an ordinance that provides for the acquisition of two easements on property owned by the Red Bank Borough Public Schools Board of Education.

Obtaining the easements at the Red Bank Primary School, which is located at 222 River St., will allow for the construction of an emergency access driveway and a water main, according to the ordinance.

The ordinance was adopted by Borough Council members on Sept. 26.

According to the ordinance, a second driveway leading to and from the primary school would be constructed and serve as an alternate access route for vehicles. At present there is one driveway on River Street that leads to and from the primary school’s parking lot.

The ordinance states, “The borough and the Board of Education have agreed the construction of an emergency access driveway and improved water main on the property would enhance the health and safety of students attending the Red Bank Primary School.”

The ordinance regarding the easements does not list costs or a time frame associated with the proposed improvements.

“This is a project we have been collaboratively working on with the (Red Bank) Board of Education for a number of years,” Mayor Pasquale Menna said.
