Barbara McDade (nee Goldey), 76, resident of Hightstown, New Jersey, and formerly of Haddon Township, NJ passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 10th. Barbara was born on March 15, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Rita Goldey (nee Sheinoff) and Wilford Goldey, and was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, James McDade Sr. and her parents. Barbara is survived by her two sons, James McDade Jr. and Keith McDade; daughter-in-law Wendy McDade (nee Mitchell); and two grandsons, William McDade and Jack (Andrew) McDade, as well as their family dog, Scout. She is also fondly remembered by her nephew Mitchel Sheinoff, his wife June and their son Greg; by her step-mother Jane Goldey, her daughter Lori and grandson Damien; and by Keith’s partner Cheryl.
Barbara lived a very full life. She grew up in southern New Jersey and graduated from Moorestown High School in 1960. During her early years, she spent much time with what became her life-long friends in Maple Shade and on the Jersey shore with her grandparents Ida and Moe Sheinoff. She met her husband Jim though her work: she was delivering telegrams and Jim was delivering telegraphs. They raised two sons while she worked in film production and property management. Later, Barbara worked in the family retail candle business and in the HVAC partnership of Phillips McDade.
She had a profound impact on many others. She volunteered extensively with Meals on Wheels, as a school aid, and as a literacy tutor. She spent decades playing volleyball and “May I” cards with some of her dearest friends, and frequently visited the Jersey shore. In her retirement years, she enjoyed attending her grandsons’ many school and sporting events and was affectionately known as “Bubbie” to her friends and neighbors in Hightstown. She was an amazing person in so many ways — connecting and uplifting people at every chance she had. There was not a day that went by where she was not grateful for all that life offered and all that she was able to do.
