The fifth annual Sinderella’s Ball will be held on Dec. 1 at the Stone Pony, 913 Ocean Ave., Asbury Park.
The event, which will start at 6 p.m., will benefit the Joan Dancy & PALS (People with ALS) Foundation.
Founded in 2005 by Terry Magovern, a long-time personal assistant to Bruce Springsteen, the Joan Dancy & PALS Foundation is an organization that runs entirely on donations.
The organization serves Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients and their families in Monmouth and Ocean counties by providing direct grants for products and services to improve their daily lives, according to a press release.
ALS is a disease of the nervous system that controls voluntary muscle movement. Motor neurons are gradually lost. As motor neurons are lost, the muscles they control become weak and then nonfunctional, according to the press release.
It is estimated that patient care for individuals affected by ALS can cost upward of $250,000 per year.
Sinderella’s Ball began five years ago when a small circle of friends partnered with the foundation and created the event to honor their friend, Sindy Weiner, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2010.
The more Weiner’s friends learned about ALS, the more they realized they wanted to do something to raise money to help others who were afflicted with the disease.
Over the course of four years, Sinderella’s Ball has raised more than $420,000, according to the press release.
Weiner died in October 2017 after a seven-year battle with ALS. Throughout her battle, she taught her friends, family members and others what it means to be strong, to live life to its fullest and to be positive when faced with a challenge, according to the press release.
Her motto during the difficult time was “always live smiling.” Her friends aim to keep Weiner’s memory alive by holding the annual event and by continuing to provide ALS patients and families with what they need, according to the press release.
A donation for entry is $20. The evening will feature music from Clarizio Music Studio, Docs of Rock, Strumberry Pie and Bobby Bandiera. There will be raffle baskets and silent and live auctions. For more information or to make a donation, visit www.sinderellasball.org
