To the editor:
I am writing to enthusiastically support the candidacies of Eve Niedergang and Dwaine Williamson for Princeton Council. As an environmentalist, I am impressed by their commitment to making sustainability an up-front part of their consideration of a broad range of issues.
Sustainability, of course, encompasses the need to preserve lands that are critical to protecting our water, to cooling and cleansing our air, to protecting us from flooding, and to giving us spaces to recreate and relax. Sustainability is also a way of thinking that considers not just the environmental impact of every decision we make, but the social and economic impact as well. It is all about getting the right balance between these priorities, and I believe that Eve and Dwaine will work hard to achieve that goal.
As a community we must be proactive in working to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Princeton’s Climate Action Plan provides a way for us to measure our progress and to ensure that our infrastructure is better prepared to withstand the impact of climate change. Eve and Dwaine also recognize the value of our preserved open space to the entire community, an important consideration for someone like me who has worked in that cause for almost 35 years. Eve and Dwaine have emphasized in their campaign that they are open to respectfully listening to input from all Princetonians and I believe that is a valuable quality for any representative of the voters. I hope Princeton residents will join me in supporting Eve and Dwaine in November.
