To the editor:
The Hickory Corner Branch of the Mercer County Library System could not get by with a lot of help from our Friends. The Friends of the Hickory Corner Library contribute over $11,000 each year to fund programming, provide new furniture and landscaping, purchase materials and supplies, not to mention funding the Summer Reading Program. In addition, the Friends also participate in Books for Soldiers campaigns to supply reading materials for our troops serving overseas.
October 21-28, 2018 is the 13th annual National Friends of Libraries Week, and it’s the perfect opportunity to give our Friends a big shout-out for all they do to make a difference for us every single day.
We know the Friends are always looking for new members and volunteers. They have so much fun while working to improve our library community. It’s easy to join; applications are available at the Circulation Desk at the library. The Friends’ biggest fundraiser are twice-yearly book sales and they do need help setting up for the next one, which will be held November 15-18.
We are so grateful to this wonderful group of people, who have found a terrific way to make new friends while giving back to our community and making our library even better.
