• The Freehold Memorial Day Parade Committee, in conjunction with JB’s Dinner, Route 33, Howell, will host a fundraiser on Nov. 13 (all day). The diner will donate 20 percent of a guest’s pre-tax check to the parade committee to assist in putting on the 145th Freehold Memorial Day Parade in 2019. The flier must be presented. • Saint Gabriel’s Altar Rosary Society will host a “Super Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair” from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 11 in the parish center gymnasium, 100 N. Main St. (Route 79), Marlboro. • Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Tennent Road, Manalapan, will host its annual Harvest Home Turkey Dinner on Oct. 27. • The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County will present its annual ceramic craft project for Hanukkah from 4:30-6 p.m. Nov. 8 at Around the Corner Art Center, 290 Mount’s Corner Drive, Freehold Township. • The League of Women Voters will hold a candidates forum for the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan. The candidates running for one full three-year term are Republican Susan M. Kiley, Democrat Amber Gesslein, independent candidate Brendan Maroney and independent candidate John P. Curley. The candidates running for a one-year
unexpired term are Republican Gerard P. Scharfenberger and Democrat Larry Luttrell. Community members are invited to come and listen to the candidates’ views on the issues.

• The 42nd annual Halloween Spooktacular Parade will be held in Freehold Borough on Oct. 28. Parade participants in costume will leave the Freehold Raceway parking lot at 1 p.m. and walk through town, including down Main Street. Residents of all communities are welcome to attend the festivities. At the conclusion of the parade, free cider, apples and donuts will be handed out at the Monmouth County Hall of Records parking lot.

• The Manalapan Board of Health will sponsor a free rabies immunization clinic for dogs and cats from 9-11:30 a.m. Nov. 3 in the Manalapan Recreation Center at the new expansion building by Field K and the spray park (best entrance is the western entrance, not the main entrance, on Route 522). • The Monmouth County Park System will host a mill demonstration on Oct. 27-28 from 1-4 p.m. at Historic Walnford, Walnford Road, Upper Freehold Township. See the 19th century gristmill in action. Demonstrations run through November. Free.

• The Reformed Church of Freehold, 67 W. Main St., will host a roast beef dinner from 4:30-7 p.m. Nov. 3. All are welcome to attend. Tickets: $20 (adult) and $6 (child, 6-12). • The Monmouth County Park System presents “Creatures of the Night!” at Huber Woods Park, Middletown. This is an interactive, non-scary family friendly hayride during which staff and volunteers perform light-hearted and educational skits. Offered on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-27 (staggered times between 4:30-8 p.m. and not all times are offered each evening). The cost is $10 per person. • The Manalapan-Englishtown Community Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse has launched its Project Zero website at projectzeromanalapan.com. Project Zero is the alliance’s initiative to reset the narrative in Englishtown and Manalapan regarding substance abuse. The website contains information about where residents can go for assistance.

• New Jersey Blood Services is in need of volunteers to work blood drives in Ocean and Monmouth counties. Tasks include assisting donors with registration, watching donors for post-donation reactions and responding to their needs. Details: Jan Zepka, 732-616-8741.
