Congregation Neve Shalom will hold a “Welcome to America” concert at 3 p.m. on Dec. 2 at the temple, 250 Grove Ave., Metuchen, to show support for those who have immigrated to the United States.
The Mercaz Jewish choir will sing in Hebrew and Yiddish by Jewish immigrants to America or their children who wrote for Broadway but also connected to their Jewish roots. Composers include Kurt Weill, Leonard Bernstein, Joseph Rumshinsky, Irving Berlin and Maury Yeston.
An Indonesian percussion group playing “Kalingtan” instruments will perform songs from their culture. The Edison Chinese Choir, of more than 60 performers, will sing in many languages, display traditional Chinese costumes and dance.
Neve Shalom children will perform Hanukkah songs and light the first candle of the Menorah since that evening is Hanukkah.
All the performers will gather for a finale.
Following the concert, for an additional fee, there will be a Kosher Chinese meat dinner catered by Chinese Kosher Express of Manalapan.
Concert tickets are $10 each. Dinner reservations are $12 per person which must be made by Nov. 26.
Proceeds from the evening will help area immigrants through the Interfaith RISE organization. A free-will offering will be collected during the program.
