In an effort to raise money for local charities, Trinity Church in Princeton will serve as the host to its 11th annual Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving Day.
Four organizations received $16,500 each from proceeds from the race, last year – Arm in Arm, Trenton Children’s Focus, Urban Promise of Trenton and Housing Initiatives of Princeton.
Arm in Arm connects individuals in need of food, housing and job support with assistance. The Trenton Children’s Chorus empowers the academic, social, and spiritual lives of children through artistry in music. The mission of Urban Promise of Trenton is to equip Trenton’s children and young adults with the skills necessary for academic achievement, life management and spiritual growth. The Housing Initiatives of Princeton are dedicated to transitioning low-income working families and individuals who are homeless or facing imminent homelessness to permanent housing and sustained self-sufficiency.
On that Thursday, Nov. 22, Beginning and ending at Trinity Church, 33 Mercer St., Princeton, the race follows a scenic course through Princeton University, past Einstein’s house, the Institute for Advanced Study and other historic locations.
Runners may pick up their bibs at Trinity Circle on the morning of the race between 7 and 8:15 a.m. The race begins at 8:30, with an award ceremony following at 9:30 a.m.
Runners may enter a raffle by throwing their race number into a hat on the day of the race for a chance to win homemade pies and other prizes.
The race is USATF sanctioned, while being timed by electronic chips. The results will be posted online at www.elitefeats.com.
Last year’s race totaled at 2,010 runners, with 398 out of state participants. This year, the race will be capped at 2,200. Registrations are still being accepted for runners. The cost is $35 before Nov. 17 and $40 late-entry registrations will be accepted from Nov. 18 through the 22. Less than 700 spots are still available.
