Millstone officials authorize park improvements

MILLSTONE – The Township Committee has awarded a contract for improvements to a tennis court at a Millstone Township park.

During a recent meeting, committee members awarded a $134,150 contract to Halecon Inc., Bridgewater, to resurface the tennis court at Rocky Brook Park, Perrineville Road. The contract was awarded subject to the availability of funding.

Halecon was awarded the contract on the recommendation of Township Engineer Matt Shafai as the lowest responsible bidder, according to a resolution. The $134,150 was submitted by Halecon as an alternate bid for the tennis court’s resurfacing. Viviano Construction submitted an alternate bid of $162,515.

According to the resolution, Halecon also submitted an alternate bid of $241,880 for premier court resurfacing at the tennis court and Viviano Construction submitted an alternate bid of $272,750 for the premier court resurfacing. Neither bid was accepted.

Committee members recently adopted an ordinance that provides $250,000 for improvements to recreational facilities. The improvements would include, but would not be limited to, upgrades to the tennis court and basketball court at Rocky Brook Park.

In other business, officials authorized the purchase of playground equipment and site amenities, and installation, from MRC Inc. at GameTime, Sea Girt. The cost is not to exceed $133,000, according to the resolution.

The playground equipment and amenities will be installed at Millstone Park, a 186-recreation facility that is being developed on Red Valley Road.

Mayor Gary Dorfman, Deputy Mayor Nancy Grbelja, Committeeman Michael Kuczinski and Committeeman Fiore Masci voted in favor of the actions taken at the meeting.
