The Jackson Police Department reported the following incidents that occurred in the township:
• At 11:41 p.m. Nov. 23, officers Jody Benecke, Thomas Conti, Kevin Kleinknecht and Robert Reiff and Sgt. Arthur Salisbury responded to Whitesville Road to investigate a report of a motor vehicle crash. The officers found a 2016 Ford that had struck a tree.
Police said an investigation resulted in the 19-year-old male driver being arrested and charged with failure to maintain lane, possession of a controlled dangerous substance while operating a motor vehicle (police said Xanax and marijuana were recovered), possession of marijuana, possession of prescription legend drugs without a valid prescription, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), underage possession of alcohol (police said wine, whiskey and bourbon were recovered in the vehicle), driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said a 16-year-old male passenger in the vehicle was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of prescription legend drugs without a prescription, underage possession of alcohol and being under the influence of CDS. The juvenile was processed and released to a family member.
Police said a 15-year-old male passenger was observed staggering in the road and began to struggle with the officers as they attempted to move him out of the road. When the teen was being released to family members at police headquarters, he became combative with officers, causing the officers to request assistance.
Conti and Sgt. Rich Bosley went outside where the juvenile was observed being combative with a family member before charging at a second family member who then sought assistance. A second struggle ensued during which the teen struck the sergeant in the face before being restrained.
The teen was charged with obstruction of the administration of the law, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of prescription legend drugs without a prescription, being under the influence of CDS, underage possession of alcohol and aggravated assault on a police officer. The teen was transported to a hospital for treatment.
• At 7:51 a.m. Nov. 24, officers Stephen Cilento, Matt Roth and Ed Travisano responded to a residence on Connor Road to investigate a report of a structure fire. Police said the officers entered the residence and escorted an elderly family member out of the house. The officers re-entered the residence and extinguished a small fire in an exhaust fan. Firefighters arrived and ensured the fire was out. Police said the fire was determined not to have been suspicious in nature.
