A Pennington-Lawrenceville Road home was left uninhabitable after it was heavily damaged by fire on Dec. 5, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.
The homeowner reported a fire in her kitchen at 10:39 a.m., and when a police officer arrived on the scene within minutes, he observed the rear first floor of the house engulfed in flames.
Firefighters under the command of Hopewell Township Emergency Services Fire Chief Matt Martin arrived and quickly put out the fire, police said.
The Pennington Fire Company was assisted by the Hopewell Fire Department, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, the Union Fire Company, the Princeton Fire Department and fire companies from Lawrence and Ewing townships, police said. The Pennington First Aid Squad also responded.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department, the Hopewell Bureau of Fire Safety and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
The fire is not believed to be suspicious, and may be due to an appliance, police said.
