The Jackson Police Department reported the following incidents occurring in the community:
• Shortly after 1 a.m. Nov. 30, officers Thomas Conti and Derek Thomason responded to a residence on New Central Avenue after a 911 caller indicated a woman was screaming. The officers found an unresponsive 49-year-old man who had apparently overdosed and was not breathing. Narcan was administered and attempts were made to revive the man, who began gasping for air and showed a weak pulse, but was still unresponsive.
Police said a second dose of Narcan was administered and the man became responsive. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. Officers collected evidence at the scene, including several small plastic bags used to package heroin, hypodermic syringes and spoons used to prepare and inject heroin, with residue, several small bags containing crack cocaine and a glass pipe used to smoke crack cocaine. The items were seized for evidence, but no charges are pending against the man as per the Overdose Prevention Act.
Police said the man called headquarters after he was released from the hospital to ask how much cocaine and heroin was taken from the home. He was told the drugs are removed when officers respond to an overdose.
• At 10:41 a.m. Dec. 2, officers Andy Falzarano and Chris Kelly were dispatched to a residence on Cassville Road to investigate a report of a 40-year-old man who had overdosed. No one answered the door and the officers forced entry to the home, but no one was present. The original caller was contacted and told police he had left the scene.
The officers subsequently determined the man who overdosed was in a home on Toms River Road. The officers went to the Toms River Road address and found the man on the front lawn. He was turning blue, having difficulty breathing and foaming from the mouth. Police said Narcan was administered and the man was transported to a hospital for treatment.
• At 10:35 p.m. Dec. 1, officers Wes Thomason and Phil Minissale responded to Bennetts Mills Road after a caller indicated a 2010 Hyundai was being driven in an erratic manner. The officers located and stopped the Hyundai. Following an investigation, the 52-year-old female driver was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
• At 5:28 p.m. Dec. 2, Police Officer Robert Gravina responded to the Polo Ralph Lauren store at the Jackson Premium Outlets, Route 537, to investigate a report of a shoplifting which had occurred at about 4:30 p.m. It was reported that merchandise valued in excess of $400 was stolen from the store.
