NORTH BRUNSWICK – The North Brunswick Department of Public Works took first place out of 15 different member municipalities in the 2nd Annual Garden State Municipal Joint Insurance Fund (GSMJIF)/Public Entity Joint Insurance Fund (PEJIF) Snow Plow Rodeo.
Brent Lane finished in first place with a score of 1799, Mike Vitanza was second with a score of 1680 and Thomas Lettieri placed third with 1654.
The Township of North Brunswick now holds the plaque and will return next year to defend the title, according to information provided by the township.
The Snow Plow Rodeo is an event that recognizes the hard working, professional drivers in member municipalities of the GSMJIF and PEJIF while allowing the opportunity to address risk control safety concerns associated with snow plow operations, according to the statement. All members were invited to send representatives from their Roads and Public Works departments to test their skills steering through an obstacle course of left and right turns, maneuvering around parked cars and moving through a serpentine series of cones.
There were CDL and non-CDL drivers categories. Drivers were timed for speed, safe driving and judged for effectively pushing snow (markers) while avoiding parked cars and other obstacles.
