East Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 will swear in its newly elected officers, including the fire chief, at its annual installation dinner next month.
Fire Chief Mario Batista was re-elected to serve a two-year term. He joined the fire company in 2004 and has held several positions over the years, including captain and training officer.
Ben Thornton was re-elected as president, Kevin Afflick was re-elected as vice president. Mike Crismali was re-elected as treasurer. All three men have been involved with the fire company for nearly 10 years.
Anthony Aprile was elected to serve as secretary and Sean Hunt will serve as trustee. Aprile joined the fire company earlier this year. Hunt is a five-year veteran of the fire company.
The volunteer fire company also welcomed new members Gino Esposito and Juan Astudillo. Maddy Matamoros, who is in 11th grade at Hightstown High School, joined the junior firefighter program.
The junior firefighter program is geared toward teenagers who are under 18 and is intended to introduce them to the fire service.
“Maddy is a graduate of our Youth Fire Academy over the summer,” Batista said. Based on her experiences, she expressed an interest in joining the fire company, he said, adding that “we are delighted to have her.”
The week-long Youth Fire Academy was aimed at introducing young people to the world of firefighting and emergency services, Batista said. The participants, who were between the ages of 10 and 15, learned what firefighters and emergency responders do.
