METUCHEN — Police have charged a 25-year-old Jersey City man with allegedly stealing two packages that were delivered to two residences in the borough, Police Chief David Irizarry said.
The man was charged with two counts of theft, police said.
On Dec. 15, representatives of the Keansburg Police Department in Monmouth County contacted the Metuchen Police Department and advised police of a stop-and-hold on a vehicle that was believed to be making Amazon deliveries in Metuchen.
The man was an independent contractor who was delivering packages from Amazon, but was not an Amazon employee, police said.
A short time later the same day, Metuchen patrol officers observed the vehicle and stopped the driver on Oakland Avenue after witnessing a motor vehicle violation. Police said the driver was processed and turned over to Keansburg detectives.
