Jackson Police Beat, Jan. 9

Jackson police reported the following incidents that occurred in the township:

• At 9:51 a.m. Dec. 25, officers John Pejoski, Derek Gorski and Brad Reider responded to a residence on North Hope Chapel Road after a 911 call resulted in a hang-up. The officers made contact with a 31-year-old man who was causing a disturbance. When the officers attempted to investigate further, the man became aggressive and uncooperative. The officers attempted to detain the man, who became combative and resisted, causing the officers and the man to fall to the ground. Officer Matt Roth arrived and the man was eventually placed in handcuffs. Police said Gorski sustained an injury which required medical attention. The man was charged with obstruction of the administration of the law, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer. He was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

• At 7:52 a.m. Dec. 30, Officer Brian Baranyay responded to a residence on Cobain Road to investigate a report that two vehicles had been stolen from the individual who called police. It was reported that the individual’s 2019 GMC SUV and 2017 Kia had been stolen from the driveway. It was reported that both vehicles had been left unlocked with the keys in the center console. Police said that through Onstar, the GMC was recovered in Hillside and impounded for further investigation. Police said a camera at the residence on Cobain Road captured images of a suspect which appeared to match a suspect who was seen on camera on Tuscany Drive as two hooded and unidentified individuals went onto the property and one person entered an unsecured vehicle.

• On Dec. 25 at 3:15 a.m., officers Kyle Stybe and Kevin Kleinknecht responded to a residence on Indiero Road to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle. The officers arrived and observed the vehicle leaving. Stybe followed the vehicle onto Diamond Road and activated his vehicle’s emergency lights to conduct a motor vehicle stop. Police said he was able to identify the vehicle as belonging to a man who had been involved in numerous disputes with the other individual in the incident on Indiero Road. The man disregarded the officer’s attempt to stop him and drove to Leesville Road, Cassville Road and Reed Road, where the police pursuit was terminated. Police said a warrant was signed for the 35-year-old man for charges of eluding police and motor vehicle violations.

• At 8:09 p.m. Dec. 28, Officer Tristan Bennett and first aid crews responded to a business on Jackson Mills Road to investigate a report of a woman who overdosed on drugs. A 34-year-old female was initially reported to be unresponsive, but she was awake when help arrived. Police said the woman was treated at the scene and refused further treatment or transport to a hospital. Hypodermic syringes and several small wax paper folds containing a substance believed to be heroin were seized for destruction. No charges are pending against the woman in accordance with the New Jersey Overdose Prevention Act. The law is intended to save lives by encouraging people to seek medical assistance whenever a drug overdose occurs.

• At 11:17 p.m. Dec. 28, officers Javier De La Torre and Kyle Stybe responded to a residence on Zimm Lane to investigate a report of a burglary. It was reported that property valued at $9,000 was stolen. There were no signs of forced entry at the residence and it was reported that a door had been left unsecured.

• At 11:19 a.m. Dec. 29, Officer Brian Baranyay responded to the area of East Veterans Highway to investigate a report of an erratic driver. Baranyay located the vehicle and stopped it on North Hope Chapel Road. Police said the 64-year-old female driver was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

• At 10:51 p.m. on Dec. 29, Officer Derek Thomason conducted a motor vehicle stop in the Windsor Crescent complex off West County Line Road. Police said a search of the vehicle was conducted after the odor of marijuana was detected. During the search, a large vacuum-sealed bag containing a substance believed to be marijuana was located. The officers also found two more bags containing a substance believed to be marijuana, a scale, several boxes of plastic bags and in excess of $300 cash. The 20-year-old male driver was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana in excess of an ounce with the intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and motor vehicle offenses. He was initially placed in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River.
