South Brunswick school board welcomes new member

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Lisa Rodgers was welcomed to the dais as the South Brunswick Board of Education reorganized on Jan. 3.
“I am excited for Lisa to be joining the team and believe she will be a huge asset to the district. Lisa has always been a strong advocate for students and a positive voice for good educational practice. She joins a team of high level board members who have shown great care for the school community and community at large,” Superintendent of Schools Scott Feder said.
Stephen Parker and Barry Nathanson, who were re-elected to the board in November, were sworn in. Harry Delgado was re-elected as board president, with Nathanson to serve as vice president for 2019.
“Both Harry and Barry have more than 40 years of board experience between them,” Feder said.
The “true highlight of the evening” was the board’s recognition of 68 Crossroads Middle School South Wind Ensemble students and their teacher, band Director Sergio Fossa, according to Feder.
“This group was accepted to perform as a middle school ensemble in the National Concert Band Festival which is part of the 2019 Music for All National Festival taking place in Indianapolis, Indiana, in March. Out of an outstanding pool of applicant ensembles, this group was deemed to have achieved the level of musical performance and artistry worthy of being featured on a national stage. This recognition places them in the extraordinary position of modeling to the world the results of performance  excellence and a commitment to quality music education. We are extremely proud of these students and their hard work and dedication,” Feder said.
