The South River Police Department will hold its third annual Chili Cookoff and Tasting from noon to 2 p.m. Jon an. 26 at the South River VFW, 31 Reid St., South River.
Enter for a chance to be crowned the maker of the “Best Chili in South River” or purchase a tasting ticket for a chance to sample chili from each contestant and vote for the “Fan Favorite” winner.
Contestants must be at least 16 years old. Any type of chili is allowed (beef, chicken, vegetarian, etc.) Contestants must provide a means to keep chili warm (chafing dish, crock pot, hot plate, etc.) Chili must be cooked off premises and be ready for judging on site by noon. Contestants are asked to provide enough chili for approximately 100 samples of 1 ounce each. The contestant entry fee is $20. All contestants must register by Jan. 22. Proceeds help fund the department’s community policing programs and community events including Law Enforcement Against Drugs, National Night Out, Too Good for Drugs, Junior and Citizen Police Academies and the Free-Throw Tournament.
