The Florence Township police announced that they arrested a 20-year-old Florence man on Feb. 4 for allegedly breaking into a home and assaulting a resident.
The suspect in custody was charged with burglary, simple assault and criminal mischief.
On Feb. 4 at approximately 8:11 p.m., police officials said that officers were dispatched to the area of Seaman Dr. for a report of a disturbance. Upon the officers arrival, they reported to have met with a juvenile female who said that her home had been broken into and that she was assaulted by the person who entered her home.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect was a 20-year-old Florence resident who allegedly broke into the victim’s residence through a rear basement door. The resident told the police that she was investigating a tapping noise in her basement with her dog and that she was confronted by the suspect as a struggle ensued.
The victim said that her dog then went after the suspect and allowed her enough time to get away from him, and ran outside to an off-duty police officer’s residence. Through surveillance video, a search warrant of the suspect’s residence and statements, detectives and patrol officers were able to identify the 20-year-old man as the alleged suspect.
Police say the suspect was then taken into custody and transported to the township police department for post arrest processing. Upon completion of processing, the suspect was charged and transported to Burlington County Jail pending his court date.
