Woman charged with attempted murder in wake of stabbing in Jackson

JACKSON – A 33-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder following her alleged involvement in an incident in Jackson on Feb. 13.

Police said that shortly after 11 a.m., officers Craig Lindenberg and Brian Baranyay responded to Hackensack Meridian Health Urgent Care-Jackson in the Meridian Health Village, South Cooks Bridge Road, to investigate a report of a woman who had been stabbed.

The officers found a 20-year-old woman who had been stabbed in the chest. Police said the officers determined the woman had been stabbed with a knife during an altercation with another woman at a residence on Brookfield Drive.

The woman was subsequently transported to the Trauma Center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, and underwent emergency surgery for her injuries, according to police.

Police officers and detectives went to the home on Brookfield Drive and detectives responded to the hospital to continue the investigation. The officers had obtained the identity of the female suspect, but when they arrived at the home they learned she had left the scene.

During a search of the scene, the weapon that was believed to have been used in the stabbing was recovered. The female suspect was taken into custody when she crashed the vehicle she was driving on Route 70 in Lakewood, according to police.

The 33-year-old woman was charged with criminal attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. She was initially placed in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River.

The investigation, headed by Jackson Police Detective Dominic Manion, is ongoing. The Jackson Police Department was assisted by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit, according to police.
