The Montgomery Township Board of Education is seeking interested township residents to fill a vacancy on the school board.
The position was created by the resignation last month of school board president Richard Cavalli.
Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest stating their qualifications and a statement as to what they can offer to the school board. The deadline to turn in those documents is on March 25 at 4 p.m.
The documents must be sent or delivered to Mark Kramer, Interim Business Administrator/Board Secretary at the Montgomery Township Board of Education at 1014 Route 601, Skillman, N.J. 08558.
The school board will interview prospective school board members at its April 9 meeting. The appointee will serve through December 2019. He or she may seek election to the remainder of Cavalli’s unexpired term – which ends in December 2021 – in the November 2019 general election.
A prospective school board member must be able to read and write, and hold U.S. citizenship. He or she must have lived in Montgomery Township for one year, and must be registered to vote in the township.
The prospective school board member must not have an interest in any contract with – or claim against – the school board, and must not be currently serving on the Montgomery Township Committee. It is not possible to hold two elected offices simultaneously.
A prospective school board member must not be disqualified from membership for the conviction of certain crimes. A board member will undergo a criminal background check by the state Department of Education within 30 days of appointment.
