Princeton will be among several locations across the country where students are expected to walk out of school to raise awareness about climate change.
The walkout in Princeton is now planned on March 15 and is slated to begin at 11 a.m. The students are expected to gather at Hinds Plaza, which is located on 65 Witherspoon St. in Princeton.
The US Youth Climate Strike organization is the force behind this movement. The organization reported that this student walk-out is a nation-wide event.
The movement, according to US Youth Climate Strike, had been inspired by Swedish 16-year-old activist Greta Thunberg, who has been speaking about climate change for the past year or so in Sweden and Europe.
Princeton High School Principal Gary Snyder said there might be individual high school students who participate on Friday, but the school, as a whole, is not participating. Students will be free to participate if they choose to do so, according to Snyder.
Students from Princeton Day School are not expected to participate since the school is on spring break.
According to the Princeton Learning Cooperative official, they will most likely have some student members and staff taking part in the event.
The other locations in New Jersey where student walkouts and strikes are happening on March 15 are Newark, Trenton, Edison and Morrisville.
