WOODBRIDGE – A 47-year-old Sewaren woman, who was entrusted with the funds associated with the Woodbridge Boys Soccer Club, allegedly stole in excess of $6,000 from the club, according to Police Director Robert Hubner.
The woman was charged with one count of theft by unlawful taking. She was processed and released pending a court hearing.
The police investigation into the missing funds was brought to light after Schools Superintendent Robert Zega was made aware of the missing funds by other staff members on Feb. 8, police said.
The woman, who is a secretary of one of the township schools, was suspended without pay pending an investigation, police said.
The police investigation determined for more than a one year period, money received from student fundraisers, donations, and yearly dues in excess of $6,000 was either electronically transferred directly from the Woodbridge Boys Soccer Club account into the woman’s personal bank account, withdrawn from ATM machines by the woman or not deposited into the account at all, officials said.
