Middletown introduces $1.7 M bond ordinance to fund capital improvements

MIDDLETOWN – A bond ordinance appropriating $1.7 million for capital improvements in Middletown has been introduced by members of the Township Committee.

On March 18, the governing body voted to introduce an ordinance that would, if adopted, appropriate funds to finance the acquisition of equipment and carry out municipal and facility improvements, according to the ordinance. 

Bonds or notes totaling $1.62 million would be issued and the borough would provide $85,365 as the down payment, according to the ordinance.

The capital improvements noted in the ordinance are as follows:

  • Acquisition of emergency response equipment and vehicles, including but not limited to the acquisition of air packs and a fire engine, $918,000;
  • Acquisition of various municipal vehicles, including but not limited to an animal control van and Jitney bus, $117,300;
  • Acquisition of various Public Works equipment, including but not limited to a skid steel miller, crack sealer and a tack oil trailer, $240,000;
  • Various improvements for buildings and grounds, included but not limited to ADA upgrades to the Poricy Park Nature Center Annex and improvements to Croydon Hall School, including all work and materials necessary, $132,000;
  • Paving and milling of the following roads, Grand Tour, McLees Rd. and Indian Terrace, including all work and materials necessary, $300,000

The ordinance is scheduled to have a public hearing during the Township Committee  meeting on April 1. Residents may comment on the ordinance at that time. The governing body may adopt the ordinance following the public hearing.
