Manalapan Police Beat, April 3

The Manalapan Police Department reported that the following incidents occurred in the township:

• On March 21 at 12:51 p.m., officers responded to a convenience store on Woodward Road to investigate a report of a man in the store who was carrying a large sharp-edged object. In addition, a 28-year-old male resident of Freehold told police the man had assaulted him and threatened him in the parking lot and in the store. Multiple officers responded to
the scene, but the suspect had left the area. Further investigation revealed the Freehold resident had been assaulted and threatened by a 39-year-old male resident of Freehold. The suspect was subsequently located, arrested and charged with assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was placed in the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township.

• On March 23 at 5:23 a.m., officers responded to a convenience store on Woodward Road to investigate a report of a suspicious man in a vehicle. Further investigation revealed the driver, a 31-year-old male resident of Hightstown, was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested, processed and released.

• On March 20 at 7:11 p.m., Patrolman Mantas Stanionis conducted a motor vehicle stop on McBride Road. The driver, who was identified as a 63-year-old male resident of Monroe Township, was found to be operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested, processed and released.

• On March 16 at 5:27 a.m., officers responded to the area of Gordons Corner Road and Old Queens Boulevard to investigate a report of a motorist possibly in need of aid. An investigation revealed the driver, a 23-year-old male resident of Princeton, was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested, processed and released. Patrolman Brian Cruse was the arresting officer.

• On March 12 at 10:37 a.m., officers responded to a business on Woodward Road to investigate a report that a woman in a vehicle needed assistance. Further investigation revealed the 42-year-old woman from Manalapan was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested, processed and released. Officer Jean Letts was the arresting officer.

• On March 18 at 6:13 p.m., a 66-year-old male resident of Manalapan reported an incident of fraud. The man told police that on March 14, an unknown individual used his personal banking information and completed fraudulent transactions in the amount of an $85.97 check and a deposit in the amount of $143,000. The incident is pending further investigation.

• On March 17 at 10:09 a.m., Patrolman Bart Mattaliano conducted a motor vehicle stop on Woodward Road for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed the driver, a 31-year-old male resident of North Carolina, was in possession of a handgun. He was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, processed and released.

• On March 15 at 7:08 p.m., officers responded to Devon Drive to investigate a report of suspicious activity in the area. Upon arrival, the officers located four vehicles that had open gas tank covers. One vehicle was found to have had a substance consistent with sugar poured inside the gas tank opening. The incident was handled by Patrolman Peter Bylsma and is pending further investigation. • On March 13 at 8:10 a.m., a 51-year-old male resident of Jamesburg reported an incident of theft. The man told police that sometime between 6-9 p.m. March 12, an unknown individual stole his landscaping trailer from in front of a residence on Winners Circle. The trailer is valued at $1,500. The incident was handled by Patrolman Jeff Emslie and is pending further investigation.

• On March 10 at 3:05 p.m., a 62-year-old female resident of Manalapan reported an incident of identity theft. The woman told police that in February, an unknown individual used her personal information and fraudulently opened and used a credit card in various locations throughout New Jersey. The unknown individual completed fraudulent transactions in the amount of $5,826.67.
