Monroe man charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of three minors

A man from Monroe has been charged with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of three minor children, and lewdness.

Lyle P. Gabriel, 39, of Monroe, was charged on April 2 with three counts of sexual assault in the second degree, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree, and three counts of lewdness in the fourth degree, according to a joint statement released by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief James J. Craparotta of the Jamesburg Police Department.

The investigation has determined that on April 2 at approximately 3 p.m. near Buckelew Avenue and Lake Street in Jamesburg, Gabriel allegedly exposed and touched himself in front of three children, under the age of 13, who were on their way home from school, according to the statement. The children alerted police in the area who apprehended the suspect.

The defendant was being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a detention hearing, as of press time.
