MANALAPAN – Motorists heading south on Route 9 in Manalapan just before 9 a.m. on April 29 were detoured off the state highway in the vicinity of the Castle Couture formal wear salon.
At 10 a.m., Manalapan Police Capt. Edward Niesz reported that Route 9 south between Gordons Corner Road and Taylors Mills Road was expected to be closed until about noon while emergency crews worked to repair a downed power line.
The cause of downed power line is believed to have been a mischievous squirrel and not a collision, Niesz said.
Motorists were being detoured off Route 9 and through a shopping center to Tennent Road.
“Our best estimate is Route 9 will be open within two hours and the power outages should be remedied within that time frame as well,” Niesz said.
