Saint Peter’s names chair of Obstetrics/Gynecology

Saint Peter’s University Hospital has announced the appointment of Carlos W. Benito, MD, as chair of the Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN), effective immediately.

Benito comes to Saint Peter’s from New Jersey’s Atlantic Health System, where he served as director of Maternal Fetal Medicine for Morristown and Overlook Medical Centers. His relationship with Saint Peter’s dates more than 25 years to his residency and fellowship training, which he completed there.

Among his many academic appointments, at Atlantic Health System, Benito served as director of Pregnancy Loss Service; director of Residency in the OB/GYN Research Program; and assistant director of Residency in OB/GYN. Prior to that, he was associate professor of OB/GYN at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) and associate director of MFM at Jersey Shore Medical Center. Benito also served as associate director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Saint Peter’s Department of OB/GYN from 2003-07.

Benito graduated from UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Medical School and earned master’s degrees in Public Health from the UMDNJ School of Public Health and in Health Care Administration from Seton Hall University. Benito completed his residency training in New Brunswick at RWJ Medical School in OB/GYN and his fellowship in MFM at both RWJ and Saint Peter’s.
