Lane closure expected on Route 18 in Old Bridge May 3-4

OLD BRIDGE – New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) officials announced a temporary overnight lane closure required to shift traffic on Route 18 between Matawan Road and Southwood Drive in Old Bridge as a pavement rehabilitation project advances in Middlesex County.

Beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, May 3, through 7 a.m. Saturday, May 4, DOT’s contractor, Earle Asphalt, is scheduled to close the left lane of Route 18 southbound, between Matawan Road and Southwood Drive, and implement a traffic shift towards the shoulder. The shift will reduce the lane widths while maintaining all current lanes. The shift will allow for center median curb repair work.

The $14.2 million federally-funded Route 18, South of Texas Road to Rues Lane, Pavement Improvement Project is designed to improve safety and traffic flow by making improvements to six miles of deteriorated pavement and the installation of pedestrian safety devices, according to the statement from DOT.

The project is expected to be completed in late fall.

Variable message signs and detour signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the resurfacing project.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists can visit www.511nj.org for real-time travel information. For news, follow DOT on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
