FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – The Township Committee has awarded a $2.11 million contract for improvements to various roads in Freehold Township this year.
During a recent meeting, committee members awarded the contract to S. Brothers Inc., Manalapan, for the township’s 2019 pavement overlay program. S. Brothers Inc. was awarded the contract as the lowest bidder, submitting a base bid of $1.76 million and alternate bids of $202,559 and $146,087, according to a resolution.
Other bids were submitted by Lucas Brothers Inc. ($2.16 million), P&A Construction ($2.22 million), Black Rock Enterprises ($2.23 million), MECO Inc. ($2.24 million), Fiore Paving Co. Inc. ($2.4605 million), S&G Paving Inc. ($2.461 million bid) and Earle Asphalt ($2.48 million), according to the resolution.
According to municipal officials, improvements during the 2019 pavement overlay program will be made to Freneau Boulevard (Holmes Court south to Kozloski Road); the entire length of Windham Way; Forsgate Drive (Koenig Lane to Willow Brook Road); the entire length of Coachman Drive South; Spruce Street (Sycamore Avenue to Woodcrest Drive); Hampton Drive (Stonehurst Boulevard to Winchester Drive); Oxford Drive (Hampton Drive to Stonehurst Boulevard); Winchester Drive (Ascot Drive to Stonehurst Boulevard); the entire length of Patriot Way; Village Lane (Randolph Road to cul-de-sac); Glenhill Road (Windham Way to Overbrook Drive); and Yorke Drive (Cambridge Road to Buckingham Way).
“The roads are driven every year and a rating system is used to determine their condition,” Freehold Township Administrator Peter Valesi said. “From that, the roads are prioritized and listed for improvement.”
Committee members also authorized a $59,036 increase in the contract for the 2018 pavement overlay program and the fiscal year 2018 municipal aid program. The change order is the first approved by the committee, according to a resolution.
According to the resolution, the change order will increase the original $1.77 million contract awarded to S. Brothers Inc. in 2018 to $1.83 million.
The resolution states that the change order was authorized on the recommendation of the township’s professional engineer, T&M Associates, and municipal engineer Timothy White as a result of additional work needed at Michael J. Tighe Park, Georgia Road, and on various roads due to unforeseen field conditions.
Improvements during the 2018 pavement overlay program were made to Double Creek Parkway, Coachman Drive North, Musket Lane, Windsor Drive, Koenig Lane, Freneau Boulevard, Shaeffer Lane, Cornwall Road, Wynnewood Drive and Thames Drive, according to municipal officials.
