Jackson Police Beat, May 22

The Jackson Police Department reported the following incidents occurred in the township:

• At 1:21 a.m. May 10, Police Officer Stephen Cilento responded to West County Line Road to investigate a report of a vehicle taken without the owner’s consent. While patrolling the area a short time later, Cilento observed the vehicle and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop.

Police said the juvenile who was driving the vehicle allegedly operated it in a reckless manner through the Pineview Apartments complex, Bennetts Mills Plaza and onto West County Line Road. The officer’s pursuit was terminated by a supervisor.

The juvenile was involved in a second pursuit with Police Officer Doug Thompson at another location before that pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns. Police said the juvenile was then involved in two pursuits in Lakewood which were terminated.

At 11:41 a.m., officers Joe Candido, Kevin Chesney, Michael Morizio and Ryan Gladysz located the vehicle on Bryant Drive. There was damage to the front of the vehicle. Police said the juvenile was located hiding in the bushes of a nearby residence and was taken into custody.

The teenager was charged with unlawful taking of a means of conveyance, theft, eluding police and resisting arrest. He was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses. The teenager was processed and lodged in the Ocean County Juvenile Detention center. Police said that during the investigation, a 21-year-old male was issued a summons for obstructing the investigation.

• At 10:56 p.m. May 10, a resident of Indiana Avenue reported the theft of a vehicle. The resident told police he had been doing work with his 2009 Ford van and left it running when he left the residence to go out with family members. Upon his return, the van was discovered to have been stolen.

• At 12:29 a.m. May 11, officers responded to a motor vehicle crash on North Hope Chapel Road. An investigation resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old female who was charged with driving while intoxicated.

• At 7:18 p.m. May 11, officers responded to a fast food restaurant on North County Line Road to investigate a report of an intoxicated driver. The man was found by employees passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle while waiting in the drive-up lane. An investigation resulted in the arrest of the 25-year-old male who was charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of an open alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle.

• At 11:01 p.m. May 11, officers responded to a residence on South New Prospect Road to investigate a report of a drug overdose. Police said an unresponsive 44-year-old male was discovered and Narcan was administered. The male became semi-alert and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Paraphernalia consistent with heroin use was recovered at the scene and seized. No charges will be filed for the items recovered as per the Overdose Prevention Act.
