EAST BRUNSWICK–The Township Council approved a resolution entering into a shared service agreement with Woodbridge for animal boarding and kenneling assistance.
East Brunswick is in need of boarding and kenneling services for lost and abandoned domesticated animals found within the township, according to the agenda for the May 20 council meeting. Woodbridge maintains the Woodbridge Animal Shelter.
Business Administrator Joseph Criscuolo said this agreement is an extension to an existing arrangement. He said it will take effect once Woodbridge passes its own resolution to enter into the agreement and it is signed by both parties.
The agreement will be terminated on June 30, 2021, unless terminated sooner, according to the council agenda.
According to the resolution, boarding and kenneling will be limited to healthy and uninjured domesticated dogs and cats only. The shelter will only accept animals submitted by authorized persons of the township. The township will provide the transportation of the animals to the shelter.
In exchange for the boarding and kenneling services for a term of two years, East Brunswick will pay Woodbridge $180 per animal brought to the shelter regardless of the length of time the animal remains in the shelter. The fee amount will be paid monthly to the Woodbridge Department of Health and Human Services, according to the council.
The East Brunswick Animal Control will bring sick or injured animals to a veterinarian of their choice and the township would be responsible for the cost of care associated with sick or injured animals from their jurisdiction, according to the agenda.
