Elmwood Cemetery seeks citizen scientists for event on June 8

Elmwood Cemetery will be the site of a “BioBlitz” on June 8, an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time.

At a BioBlitz, scientists, families, students, teachers, and other community members work together to get a snapshot of an area’s biodiversity. This will be a rare opportunity for residents to experience the environs of New Brunswick and North Brunswick and to discover and catalogue the ecology and the biodiversity of their communities.

“Citizen scientists” will work with experts actively surveying the mammals, fish, plants, insects, aquatic invertebrates, birds and fungi that inhabit 35 of the 50 acres of the site.

The BioBlitz will include public talks by expert naturalists about local natural history.

The June 8 event is sponsored by the Lower Raritan Watershed Partnership (LRWP), the

Americorps Watershed Ambassadors Program, New Brunswick Environmental Commission, North Brunswick Environmental Commission and Elmwood Cemetery.
