Lewis Brewster (Brew) Young III, 76, passed away Monday June 3, 2019. Brew grew up San Gabriel, CA. He attended the University of California, Riverside, for his undergraduate work, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, then moved to the MidWest to pursue his doctorate degree in Chemistry at Iowa State University. While studying there, he met Marian Gordon, an undergraduate student and his future wife. After doing post-doctorate work at the University of Colorado, Brew had a successful 30-year career at Mobil Chemical, where he worked on a variety of projects and authored many patents. Brew loved an active life. His early hobbies included car racing and flying. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved observing all the wonders of nature. After moving to New Jersey, Brew became a keen birder. He took advantage of every opportunity to look for birds while hiking and kayaking. In addition to serving on the Washington Crossing Audubon Society Board of Trustees, Brew enjoyed participating in nature studies, including grassland, ‘Big Day’ and Christmas bird counts, and even butterfly counts. In addition to birding, hiking and kayaking, Brew loved sailing, kite flying and ice dancing. Brew was predeceased by his parents, Lewis and Bette Young and his sister, Sally Young. He is survived by his wife, Marian (Gordon) Young; his sister-in-law, Rosalyn Doty; brother-in-law Richard Doty, and nieces, Cynthia Bradford and Sherry Schreck.
