East Windsor Township residents have 24 days left to file a nominating petition to seek a seat on the East Windsor Regional School District Board of Education.
The deadline to file is July 29 at 4 p.m. Nominating petitions signed by 10 registered voters must be turned in to the Mercer County Clerk’s Office in Trenton by that date. The school board election is Nov. 5.
The terms of Christine Harrington, Nicole LaRusso and Ram Ramachandran are expiring. They represent East Windsor Township on the nine-member school board. Seven seats are set aside for East Windsor Township representatives and two are for Hightstown Borough representatives.
The term is for three years.
Ramachandran reported that he is going to seek re-election to the school board, but Harrington said she that would not be seeking another term.
Harrington said she “thoroughly enjoyed” her time on the school board – nearly 10 years – and she was honored to serve, but she has recently accepted a new position at New Jersey City University. She will be an associate professor and coordinator of a new doctoral program in community college leadership.
“Prior to this position, I worked in the community college sector for 18 years. I am incredibly passionate about the access and success mission of community colleges, and I am excited to have this opportunity to develop aspiring leaders in this field. I want to focus on this work,” Harrington said.
Larusso, the third incumbent school board member, could not be reached for comment.
Candidates for school board must be at least 18 years old, be able to read and write, and hold U.S. citizenship. They must have lived in the school district for at least one year, and be registered to vote.
Candidates may not have an interest in any contract or hold a claim against the school board.
Candidates may not serve on the municipal governing body, and may not be disqualified from holding office because of conviction of certain crimes.
Nominating petitions and additional information are available on the New Jersey School Boards Association website at www.njsba.org.
