All-Shore Gridiron Classic postponed because of potential storms

Ominous weather forecasts settled in across the state of New Jersey on the afternoon of July 11. Most locales faced an 80 or 90 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms throughout the evening.

These ominous forecasts led to the postponement of the 42nd annual All-Shore Gridiron Classic, originally scheduled for July 11 at 7 p.m. at Long Branch High School. The high school football all-star game, which pits players from Monmouth County against players from Ocean County, will now be played on July 12 at 7 p.m. at Long Branch.

The decision to postpone was made in the afternoon, before any storms began in earnest. Game officials said on Twitter that the threat of heavy rain and lightning was too much of a potential safety hazard to overlook.
