Freehold Borough centennial gala to be held at American Hotel on Sept. 6

FREEHOLD – The Borough of Freehold is celebrating 100 years of incorporation in 2019.

Although Freehold was settled more than 325 years ago as a much larger municipality, which included what is now Freehold Township, the residents in the more densely settled section of town held a special election on July 8, 1919 and voted to have their section of Freehold become recognized as a separate entity.

The first mayor was elected on Sept. 8, 1919, and the town officially became known as the Borough of Freehold.

To celebrate the historic occasion, the Freehold Borough Centennial Committee will host a Centennial Gala from 6-11 p.m. Sept. 6 at the American Hotel, West Main Street, according to a press release.

“This special evening will prove to be the event of the century as we gather together with old and new borough residents, businesses and supporters to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Freehold Borough,” said Roger Kane, the centennial committee chairman and a former mayor.

Tickets for the Sept. 6 event are $75 per person and include an open bar during cocktail hour, a buffet dinner, dancing, 50-50 raffle and silent auction. Seating is limited.

To reserve tickets, mail a check with name, address, telephone number, email and number of tickets requested, no later than Aug. 23, to the Freehold Borough Centennial Committee, Borough Hall, 51 W. Main St., Freehold, NJ 07728. No tickets for the event will be issued. Check-in will be at the door.
