JACKSON – The Women’s Club at Westlake recently presented eight deserving Jackson women with scholarships to aid them in their pursuit of a higher education and meaningful careers.
The women earned the scholarships based on their outstanding academics, service to the community and financial needs, according to a press release from the Women’s Club at Westlake.
The scholarship recipients are:
• Faith Appelbaum, a 2019 graduate of Jackson Liberty High School, will be attending Rider University to pursue a degree in elementary education for a career as a special education teacher;
• Nicole DeVittorio, a 2009 graduate of Jackson Liberty High School, currently attending Ocean County College to pursue a nursing degree;
• Rori Englert, a 2019 graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, will be attending York College of Pennsylvania to pursue a degree in sports management;
• Chaya Sarah Lowy, a 2019 graduate of Bais Kaila High School, will be attending Concordia College to pursue a degree in social sciences;
• Alyssa Masarik, a 2019 graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, will be attending Ringling College of Art and Design, Sarasota, Fla., to pursue a degree in motion design;
• Amber Masarik, a 2019 graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, will be attending Ringling College of Art and Design, Sarasota, Fla., to pursue a degree in motion design;
• Alexis Novotny, a 2017 graduate of Jackson Liberty High School, earned an Associate’s Degree in liberal arts and a teacher’s aide certificate from Ocean County College in 2019 and is transferring to Bloomsburg University to pursue a dual degree in rducation (Pre-K to 4 and K-8 special education);
• Megan Rafferty, a 2018 graduate of the Performing Arts Academy, Ocean County Vocational High School, earned an Associate’s Degree in liberal arts and will attend Montclair State University to pursue a degree in English.
In addition to presenting the scholarship awards, the club members enjoyed listening to guest speaker Carol Rickard, a licensed clinical social worker who is an award-winning author and lecturer, according to the press release.
Rickard is the founder of WellYOUniversiy and is a stress and wellness professional. Her humorous presentation about dealing with stress and providing coping skills was entertaining and well-received, according to the press release.
Since 2003, the Women’s Club at Westlake has provided almost $69,000 to 69 Jackson women to advance their education, according to the press release.
