Sayreville officials seek to rehabilitate borough’s water system

SAYREVILLE – Sayreville officials are seeking to appropriate $1.3 million toward the rehabilitation of the borough’s water system.

On Aug. 19, the Borough Council introduced a bond ordinance that will, if adopted, authorize the appropriation for the rehabilitation of the Duhernal Well, the water supply system in Sayreville. To finance the entirety of the appropriation, the bond ordinance will also authorize the issuance of $1.3 million in bonds or notes of the borough’s water utility.

According to the bond ordinance, the $1.3 million will help finance, as applicable, all construction planning, engineering, design work, preparation of plans and specifications, permits, bid documents, environmental remediation, construction documents, inspection and contract administration and all materials, equipment, accessories and work necessary therefor or incidental thereto.

In other business, the council passed a resolution awarding a $393,000 contract to Circle 3, Ventnor City, for waterproofing upgrades to Borough Hall, subject to the waiver of minor irregularities.

The council also passed a resolution authorizing the extension of a contract with Constellation Services, Inc. for the provision of energy supply services.

Additionally, council members passed separate resolutions authorizing the purchases of seven 2019 Chevy Tahoe police pursuit vehicles and one 2020 Chevy Tahoe special service vehicle from Mall Chevrolet in the amount not to exceed $299,010; lights, sirens and related accessories for new police vehicles from East Cost Emergency Lighting in the amount not to exceed $132,909; two 2020 Ford Escapes from Beyer Ford in an amount not to exceed $47,306, along with replacing two previously purchased Dodge Durangos; one 2019 Ford F-250 from Beyer Ford in an amount not to exceed $27,528; and leaf bags from Pabco Industries in an amount not to exceed $22,518, as well as a continuation of purchasing Ford parts and services from Tom’s Ford, Keyport.

Council members also passed separate resolutions authorizing the extension of the contract with Legacy Riding Stables, Piscataway for horseback riding and related concessions at Julian Capik Nature Preserve; the extension of the textile collection contract with American Recycling Technologies for a two-year term; the extension of the snow plowing and removal contract with B&W Construction for one additional two-year term; and the award of a contract to R.J. Walsh to refurbish fuel tanks at the Public Safety Complex in an amount not to exceed $30,681.

Finally, the council passed a resolution authorizing the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) coordinator to submit the 2019 Annual Action Plan to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. From the $225,183 allocation for 2019, the CDBG proposes to dedicate $207,683 towards MacArthur Avenue reconstruction, $15,000 towards program administration and $2,500 towards literacy program, according to borough officials.
