Howell police investigating armed robbery at Domino’s

HOWELL – The Howell Police Department is asking anyone who has information about an armed robbery that occurred at a Domino’s pizza store to contact the department.

At 11:15 p.m. Aug. 28, police received a 911 call from an individual who was reporting an armed robbery at Domino’s in the Roseland shopping plaza on Route 9 South at Shady Lane.

When officers arrived at the scene they were informed that a man whose face was covered with a bandana had entered the store and handed the cashier a note. Police said the note insinuated the cashier should open the register and give the man money.

Police said it was reported the man had what appeared to be dark paint or makeup around his eyes to conceal his skin tone and it was reported he had what appeared to be a kitchen knife in his possession.

The cashier handed over a small amount of cash. There were no injuries as a result of the robbery, according to police.

Police were told the man informed employees there were other people watching the cashier from outside the building and told the employees not to call police. As the man exited the store, he acted as if he was communicating through an earpiece. The suspect fled toward Route 9.

A perimeter was set up and a Howell police service dog was deployed. The track led behind a nearby restaurant into the Heritage Point residential development. The track and a search was concluded in the development. Video obtained from a nearby business confirmed the path of the suspect, according to police.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit assisted in processing the scene.

On Aug. 29, Howell police detectives conducted a follow-up investigation and canvassed the area. Police are asking residents to review footage on their security cameras. Anyone with information or what police described as even a hunch is asked to call police.
