Hillsborough Township Mayor Frank DelCore released a announcement that a special event will be held in October as part of a statewide campaign.
DelCore said that the first annual “Mayors’ Walk” is scheduled for Oct. 13 at Duke Farms in Hillsborough in conjunction with the state-recognized “Mayors’ Wellness Campaign.”
The campaign is a statewide community health initiative, which aims to provide evidence-based tools and strategies for mayors and community leaders to help their residents achieve healthier lifestyles, and to improve overall health and wellness in communities.
The New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute has headed the “Mayors’ Wellness Campaign” in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities for more than 12 years. The campaign currently includes more than 400 participating communities.
“We look forward to enjoying the picturesque fall scenery at Duke Farms as well as a leisurely walk through the park,” DelCore said in a statement.
Duke Farms, located on 1112 Dukes Parkway West, Hillsborough, promotes environmental stewardship and aims for visitors to become informed stewards of the land, according to officials. Visitors have the opportunity to use it as a place of education, leisure and research, aimed to enhance the environmental health of the region.
Registration will be held at 8:30 a.m., and the walk will begin at 9 a.m. Registration is required, and the first 100 participants will receive a “Mayors’ Wellness Walk & Talk” shirt.
If registering more than one participant, officials encourage attendees to register each as an individual and be sure to include their first, last name, and shirt size. Shirts will be distributed at the registration table the day of the walk.
Officials said that participants are encouraged to sign up by Sept. 27 to secure a complimentary “Mayors’ Walk & Talk” shirt. To register, visit the link “Mayors’ Walk & Talk Registration” online, visit the Friday eNewsletter or call the mayor’s office at 908-369-3535. Registrations received after Sept. 27 are welcomed, but shirt availability may be limited.
