Sunnyside premieres on NBC

By Rick Gables

NBC will premiere its new series Sunnyside on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. The series revolves around Garrett Modi, living the American Dream. As the youngest New York City Councilman ever, he was rubbing elbows with the political elite, attending star-studded parties and was the pride of Queens. But instead of spending his time in office helping the people that got him elected, he lost his way amidst the power and glamour of politics. When his downward spiral got him busted for public intoxication (and downright stupidity), it was all caught on tape and ended his career. Now, Garrett’s crashing with his sister, Mallory, and wondering where it all went wrong. That is, until he’s hired by a diverse group of hopefuls who dream of becoming American citizens and believe he can help – giving him a new sense of purpose and a chance for redemption as long as he remembers where he came from. The cast includes Kal Penn, Diana Maria Riva, Joel Kim Booster, Kiran Deol, Poppy Liu, Moses Storm and Samba Schutte.

FOX will premiere season three of 9-1-1, followed by its new crime drama Prodigal Son on Monday, Sept. 23, starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT. 9-1-1 explores the high-pressure experiences of police officers, firefighters and dispatchers who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations. These emergency responders must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in their own lives. The series stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause and Golden Globe nominee Jennifer Love Hewitt. Prodigal Son is a fresh take on a crime franchise with a provocative and outrageous lead character and a darkly comedic tone. Malcom Bright (Tom Payne) has a gift. He knows how killers think and how their minds work. Why? Back in the 1990s, his father was one of the worst, a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon.”

CBS will premiere its fourth season of Bull on Monday, Sept. 23, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The series stars Michael Weatherly as Dr. Jason Bull in a drama inspired by the early career of Dr. Phil McGraw, the founder of one of the most prolific trial-consulting firms of all time. Brilliant, brash and charming, Dr. Bull is the ultimate puppet master as he combines psychology, human intuition and high-tech data to learn what makes jurors, attorneys, witnesses and the accused tick. Bull employs a team of experts at Trial Analysis Corporation to shape successful narratives down to the very last detail.
