Student group of World Mission Society promotes crime prevention

ASEZ, the university student volunteer group of the World Mission Society Church of God, hosted a Crime Prevention Forum at Middlesex County College to discuss the role that college students can play in preventing crimes.

As part of the worldwide Reduce Crime Together campaign, the forum on Sept. 19 included Lt. Gene Rickle of the South Brunswick Police Department Community Policing Division, Mark Cafferty from the North Brunswick Office of Emergency Management, and keynote speaker Mayor Wilda Diaz and Chief of Police Roman McKeon of Perth Amboy, according to information provided by World Mission Society, based in North Brunswick.

“We are the pivotal generation that will lead the future and have the chance to be the example for our fellow students,” said Zyania Zavala, a volunteer for ASEZ (Save the Earth from A to Z). “This is why we must pay attention to issues that affect our international community and seek and develop solutions that will help reduce crime and bring peace, and create a more sustainable future for our planet. ASEZ volunteers will continue to work together with leaders in our communities and around the world in order to make the world better for our future generations.”

“When people are genuine and show that they really care, you can clearly tell. You can just feel it. And this is what actually changes people,” McKeon said.

ASEZ also hosted the same forum at the University of Louisville in Kentucky on Sept. 19, as well as in Colton, California, on Sept. 18.

The Reduce Crime Together campaign is part of a bigger ASEZ movement called SAVE, which consists of activities within Social Services, Awareness Raising, Victim Relief and Environmental Protection. The Reduce Crime Together campaign aspires to establish a safe and peaceful society by reducing crime rates through college student volunteer activities, according to the statement.

ASEZ is an international volunteer group consisting of university student members of the World Mission Society Church of God. Their agenda falls in line with the Sustainable Development Goals created to address global challenges. Last year, ASEZ carried out cleanups in more than 7,000 different regions around the world.
