It was another busy weekend in the Hopewell Valley Soccer Association. The results and recaps from a boys’ and girls’ soccer division are below.
Division 4 Girls’ Recreation League
Sunday afternoon, Sept. 30, saw two unbeaten teams square off in the Inter-County League, as the Hamilton Crusaders took on Hopewell’s Jack’s Nursery.
The first five minutes of the game were up and down the field as each team tried to find an opening. But late in that stretch, Amanda Flanders received a pass from Sonia Tenbarge at the top of the box, firing to the back of the net just to the right of the keeper’s outstretched arm, giving Hopewell’s Jack’s Nursery an early lead.
Jack’s Nursery’s defense held extremely well, not allowing the Crusaders to drive toward the goal very often. The first half ended with Hopewell on top, 3-0, after Ayla Mauk and Carly Brant both scored.
Outstanding defense and ball movement for both teams marked the second half, but Mauk and Brant each added one more goal to give Hopewell’s Jack’s Nursery a 5-0 victory. Goalkeeping duty was split between Chelsea Kent and Evie Lansing, making for their second clean sheet of the season.
Division 3 Boys’ Recreation League
In a close game throughout, Capital Health defeated Greenleaf Landscaping by a score of 2-1.
Opening the scoring for Capital Health was Gavin Catlett, scoring his first goal of the season, which was followed by a nice move and goal by Darius Roman.
The defense was strong for the entire game, led by Luke Hemmer, Jeff Blake, Aaron Nulman, Robert Taylor and Jason Donis-Yuman, with the always-reliable Adam Rise in goal. The offense kept the pressure on with consistent play by Jack Elliott, Ben Lang and Graham Carter.
