MONROE – More convenience and improvements are coming for bus commuters traveling to New York City from Monroe.
Due to increased interest, Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro, along with Coach USA LLC and Academy Bus Lines, announced a Wall Street Express Bus option beginning Oct. 7.
The Suburban/Academy will begin operating a Wall Street express trip that bypasses the South Brunswick Park and Ride at New Jersey Turnpike Exit 8A. The trips originate in East Windsor and service all stops in Monroe to Rossmoor before getting onto the New Jersey Turnpike, according to a statement provided by the mayor’s office.
The new Wall Street express route follows the announcement of two morning express busses to Midtown which began in the spring.
“The Monroe Township Commuter Council has made steady progress and seen quick results that will improve quality of life for Monroe commuters,” Tamburro said in the statement. “The Midtown express busses have been extremely popular and we are happy to add yet another convenient express service, this time to Wall Street, for our residents.”
Tamburro established the commuter council after recognizing township residents rely on bus service as the sole public transportation option from the municipality and he said it is a critical step toward improving private bus service to New York and Jersey City, according to the statement.
Also starting in October, the entire Applegarth Park and Ride will be repaved and new lighting, sidewalks and bus shelters will be implemented in the hopes to encourage more ridership and convenience for the residents. The mayor and council recently approved the construction contract for the improvements.
During construction, commuters can park at the Park and Ride on Applegarth Road located across from the Clearbrook Community. Further notice will be provided regarding construction details and accessibility.
Tamburro said they are working together with private bus companies to provide more options aimed at improving the commute to and from New York City and the surrounding areas for our residents.
“Upgrading the Park and Ride will further ensure that Monroe commuters have a much better experience,” Tamburro said in the statement.
